Invitation to burglars
MORE than one-fifth of Australians leave their house unlocked, new research reveals.
A Canstar survey of 1036 Aussies found 22 per cent – or 4.4 million people – did not routinely lock their doors, windows or garage. The survey also found 12 per cent – or 2.4 million people – regularly left their car unlocked.
Analysis of the most recent Australian Bureau of Statistic (ABS) figures found 238,100 households had a break-in between February 2019 and February 2020.
Of this group, 71 per cent had items stolen while 48 per cent suffered property damage.
