Keep car, save planet

HOLDING off trading in your fuel-efficient petrol vehicle could reduce CO2 emissions significantly more than a quicker switch to alternative fuel vehicles, a Japanese study has found. It suggested driving current internal combustion engine cars longer during the transition to green vehicles would help the planet.

The group found if cars had been kept on the road 10 per cent longer, the cumulative carbon footprint would have dropped by 30.7 million tonnes.
