Boost for brain study
RETIRED top-level athletes’ brains will be at the centre of new research into concussion and injury in sport.
The federal government has announced it will inject $340,000 to improve research and prevention of brain injuries and concussions.
The comprehensive study will draw on the expertise of medical professionals and researchers and will be undertaken in conjunction with the University of Newcastle and the University of Canberra.
Researchers will evaluate the brain health of retired elite athletes to make their findings.
The concussion and brain health project will start this year and be delivered by 2024.
