Top dog trainers to put on a show for late, loved Baz

- GREG ALDAM

ON an excellent nine-race card at the Winnellie Park greyhounds on Sunday night, the highlight of the night no doubt will be the Baz Herlihy Memorial.

And it has brought together a strong field to honour Baz.

This is great to see as he put in a lot of effort as a trainer, committee member and supporter of Winnellie Park over a lengthy period of time, and he would be proud to see how the club has progressed especially in recent years.

The race itself has Darwin Cup winner Mighty Marshall engaged and he continues to race well for Andrew Lasker, as well as his kennelmate Go Quantum, who is more than capable over the 537m distance.

They won’t have it all their own way as the enigmatic Percy’s Dream for Adam Poulter, Great Knock for Steele Bolton and the promising Shrek’s Storm from the Graeme Ferns kennel must have solid claims.

Speaking of Ferns, he has a couple of nice chances with Dr Topaz in race three and he is a greyhound who looks to have a nice future at Winnellie Park, and Capital Kay in the following race will have supporters.

Other notable hopes include the flying Old School Cool in race two for leading trainer Bolton, Aunt Bee is a nice youngster on the way up for Ron Phillips and she will be hard to beat in race six, while Dr Archer in race eight is the one to beat for in-form trainer Lasker.

The first race is set down for 6.46pm NT time, with the gates open from 5.30pm.

It will be a night that promises plenty of quality racing action.
