HISTORIC CHIMNEY REPAIRS

- THOMAS MORGAN

A HISTORIC chimney at the Hamilton Homestead is among a number of recipients of NT government heritage grants.

The Hamilton Downs Youth Camp at Alice Springs will receive $17,025 to repair the old homestead buildings.

Another six organisations across the NT will also share in $100,000 in grants, including the Central Australian Aviation Museum to repair a Heron aircraft.

Joseph Murray in Katherine will receive $20,000 to restore the Knott’s Crossing Gallon Store precinct.

Arts, Culture and Heritage Minister Chansey Paech said the grants were part of a push to preserve the Northern Territory’s history.

“It was good to see a range of projects from Central Australia supported this year while the works at Knott’s Crossing Gallon Store Precinct will help to preserve a site that is an important part Katherine’s social history,” Mr Paech said.
