CELEBRATE OUR BELOVED GRANDIES

- NATHANIEL CHAMBERS

THEY give the best hugs, they’ll often slip you a fiver just because and they tend to have the best snacks. Grandparents are the best.

That’s why it’s so special that this year, for the first time, COTA NT is holding a Grandparents Day celebration. The free community event at the Sitzler Netball Centre in Marrara runs from 10am to 1pm and includes a free barbecue and morning tea. There will also be an artwork exhibition including entries from Territory schoolchildren for the I Love Grandies competition celebrating grandparents.

Nanna Jean from the rural area said she loved being a grandparent thinking of her two grandchildren Skyla, 10, and Summer, 4, all the time.

“It’s just beautiful being a grandparent. I think about my grandchildren every day, it’s just wonderful,” she said.

“We only have the one child and when she told us that she was pregnant we just felt complete.

“I spend as much time with them as I can, even picking them up from school just to see them. I just love it, being a grandparent makes your world.”

The winners of a Territory-wide schools’ competition will be announced with a main winner and six finalists.
