Glaucoma breakthrough

-

RESEARCH out of Melbourne has helped develop a rapid screening test for glaucoma that could help advance early detection of the disease.

A research team of engineers and ophthalmologists led by RMIT University has created a test that uses infrared sensors to monitor eye movement and can produce accurate results within seconds. The new AI-powered test takes moments to show if there is a risk of glaucoma, making it ideal for use in a national screening program.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness and will affect one in 50 Australians in their lifetime.
