NT’S LARGEST EVER AUS DAY CELEBRATIONS

- FLOSS ADAMS

THE largest Australia Day celebrations in the Territory ever to be held will take place at the Darwin Waterfront with arts and entertainment for everyone all day long.

With a long list of bands, ceremonies and activities to watch or partake in, NT Aus Day will be a FOMO inducing event.

Australia Day Council NT chairman and Larrakia and Wulna man Nigel Browne believed Australia was one of

the very few success stories in terms of multicultural society with Darwin leading as a standout example.

“We’ve had a lot of people from a lot of different backgrounds who have come to Larrakia country over the last 150 years to make it truly reflective of what a multicultural society should look like,” Mr Browne said.

Although January 26 represents an ugly early history, Mr Browne, who says the date is “problematic”, said it was “more important in how we process the

day”. “I still think we need a national day of celebration, absolutely, we need to bring people together,” he said.

The Territory’s festival will begin at 6.30am with the OzRun.

Following the sweat-sesh, a Larrakia smoking ceremony will be conducted.

Afterwards, exciting talent will perform at the Convention Centre with ARIA award-winning act Electric Fields and Australia’s fastest emerging act Yolngu dream team King Stingray.
