Vesper Bale to go distance at Winnellie Park

- GREG ALDAM

THE competitive racing continues at Winnellie Park on Sunday with 10 races on what appears to be a terrific program on paper.

One of the highlights is the lower grade distance race over 537m where Vesper Bale will step out a warm favourite after a dominant victory over this journey last start for Steele Bolton.

Once again jumping from box eight he should prove very hard to beat, although wily trainer Graeme Ferns has pushed his in-form bitch Tears to Glory out to this distance for the first time and she warrants close attention. Another Bolton runner in Coffee Run is capable when on his game.

The open sprint over 383m is another race that is well worth the admittance fee to watch and the Ron Phillipstrained Ohia possesses plenty of early speed so will give his opposition something to catch.

However the likes of Zipping Django who has drawn ideally for Chris Blackman, and Pepperberry from the Bolton kennel, will have their supporters.

It could well pay to follow the Ferns kennel once again as he does have his team going well and Rui Koala in race four, Muskeg pushing out in distance in race seven and Dr Topaz in race nine are all genuine contenders in their respective races.

Other notable hopes include a newcomer in race one called Help his Pension for Brian Kelleher, who reportedly has trialled well in preparation for his first career start. Leading Diva in the following race for Adam Poulter looks to have found a suitable assignment, while another Poulter runner in Another Eight could be the way to go for the punters to finish the night in fine style.

First race is set down for 6.27pm, with the gates open from 5pm on what should prove to be a top program.
