DANCERS LEAP AT A CHANCE

- BETHANY GRIFFITHS

DARWIN’S young ballet community has leapt at the chance to be mentored by some of Australia’s best dancers.

The Victorian State Ballet company is in town for the performance of Beauty and the Beast, and took some time out to pass on some teachings to 40 local dance students.

Assistant director Michelle Sierra said they enjoyed any chance to engage with the local community

One of the professional dancers Tynan Wood, who portrayed Beast in the latest production, said he was honoured to impart some wisdom.

“I like being able to teach these young people things I wish I knew when I was a young dancer,” Wood said.

Young Darwin dancer Tully said he was excited to be able to work with some of his role models.

“It’s such a great opportunity,” Tully said.
