Anamoe given scare

-

ANAMOE, Godolphin’s outstanding three-year-old, was given a real fright before finding a way to win at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) was a heartstopper with Hilal ($10) putting Anamoe ($1.70) under real pressure in a desperate duel to the finish.

Only a half neck separated them on the line.

But Godolphin trainer James Cummings said he was optimistic about Anamoe’s chances of winning a third Group 1 when he tackles the $1m Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 5.

“Anamoe was still a bit above himself in the yard today but I identified that I thought he would need at least two runs going into the (Randwick) Guineas and we’ve stuck to that as a formula for him,’’ Cummings said.

“He should be perfect in a fortnight.”
