CRICKET CLUB’S NEW PACEMAKER

- BETHANY GRIFFITHS

A TOP End cricket club is now home to the NT’s first communityaccess defibrillator.

And the not-for-profit organisation that delivered it has plans to spread their use throughout the Territory.

Former paramedic and founder of Defib for Life Andrew White made the trip from Victoria to supply Southern Districts Cricket Club with the lifesaving device.

“I’m a little shocked at the lack of defibrillators here,” Mr White said.

“Hopefully we can help to draw attention to the importance of defibrillators in public places, workplaces, schools and homes during this visit.”

Partnering with Coolalinga and Districts Community Bank this week, Defib for Life has so far supplied more than 6000 devices across Australia.

Mr White said he hoped all sporting clubs, hotels and tourist attractions in the NT would consider installing an AED.

“It’s about venues, it’s about the size – the more people who come through the venue the more chance someone might have a cardiac arrest,” he said.
