LONG before Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle turned their backs on an aristocratic life in favour of the bright lights and glamour of Hollywood, there was another blue-blood rebel making waves. The fellow in question was Stede Bonnet, a wealthy 18th-century landowner who gave up his pampered existence to become a swashbuckling buccaneer known as The Gentleman Pirate. In this boisterous and irreverent series, Bonnet is played by Rhys Darby (pictured). It opens with Bonnet questioning if life on the high seas is all it’s cracked up to be.
