Sue’s All-Star ticket yet to be stamped

MANY trainers won’t make plans on race day, especially when a $2.25m winner’s cheque is up for grabs.

Cranbourne trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have to decide on an All-Star Mile start for Sierra Sue after her win in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

Winning the Futurity Stakes presented Sierra Sue with a wildcard into the March 19 event at Flemington.

The Futurity Stakes was Sierra Sue’s second Group 1 win after the mare claimed last year’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, also run over the Caulfield 1400m course.

Sierra Sue won a much weaker race over 1732m at Sale as a three-year-old but Young said the 1600m was a query in top races.

“We will have to have a think about it,” Young said.

“I think she is better at the 1400m, she’s a lot more effective. But she has won over 1700m in lower grade so you just never know.

“She’s won at Flemington in a Group 2. She does love Flemington.

“Or you weigh it up and go to a Sangster in Adelaide and you freshen her up.

“We won’t make the decision on race day but we’ll enjoy the fact we’ve got another Group 1.”

Sierra Sue’s jockey John Allen said the five-year-old would be a winning chance in the All-Star Mile.

“There’s no reason not to go there with the big prizemoney on offer and she’d be in with a big shout,” Allen said.
