Australian music greats unite in concert to help out victims

AUSTRALIAN music greats have banded together to help raise money for flood-ravaged communitie­s in the nation’s east.

Part of Queensland and NSW were submerged in waters, forcing locals to flee their homes.

Dozens of people also lost their lives in the unpreceden­ted weather event.

The rest of the nation has been asked to dig deep into their pockets and raise money to help the hundreds of thousands of flood victims.

Australian Red Cross are raising money with a special telethon event called ‘Australia Unites: Red Cross Flood Appeal’ that will air live at 7.30pm AEDT on Saturday night on Channel 9 and 9 Now, Channel 7 and 7 Plus and 10 and 10 Play.

A number of famous faces including Tones And I, Jimmy Barnes, Delta Goodrem, Jon Stevens, Missy Higgins, Jessica Mauboy, Vanessa Amorosi, Hunters and Collectors,

Kate Miller-Heidke, The Living End, Casey Donovan and Sheppard will perform to help raise money.

Hosting the show across all three major TV networks are Scott Cam, Sylvia Jeffreys, Andy Lee and Peter Overton for Channel 9, Natalie Barr, David Koch, Sonia Kruger and Mark Ferguson for Channel 7 and Carrie Bickmore, Dr Chris Brown, Amanda Keller and Osher Günsberg for Channel 10.

All money raised from the event will go towards two different types of cash grants that will open on March 18.

Bereavemen­t Grants will help with immediate needs, like funeral costs, for senior next of kin of those who died as a result of the floods.

The Relief Grant with help with basic needs such as food, clothing or personal items for people whose homes was impacted by the floods and are experienci­ng financial hardship as a result.

More than 630 Red Cross workers are working in the flood zones.
