LIGHTHOUSE A BEACON IN MAHER STABLE OF STARS
CIARON Maher will be hoping Lighthouse’s Group 1 win at Rosehill on Saturday sets the tone for his stable through the Golden Slipper festival.
Lighthouse ($5), , who started her racing career in the US, comfortably defeated some of the best fillies and mares to take out the Coolmore Classic (1500m).
Favourite Espiona ($3.10) finished eighth.
For Maher, Melbourne’s champion trainer, it could be the start of a big week as he also has unbeaten filly Coolangatta, favourite for the $5m Golden
Slipper at Rosehill on Saturday. Maher (pictured) said Coolangatta was going “super” and he was w very comfortable with the filly’s preparation. pr
But Saturday was Lighthouse’s L moment and a Maher, who trains t in partnership with w David Eustace, preferred pref to shine a light on the grey mare who has taken so quickly and impressively to Australian racing. Lighthouse’s US-based owners – Larry, Nanci and Jamie Roth, of LNJ Foxwoods – sent the mare Down Under after she had won in Kentucky, Del Mar and Santa Anita.
