McMAHON RULES OUT A TILT AT SOLOMON

-

FORMER CLP senator Sam McMahon has tried to hose down rumours she’s planning to run for the federal seat of Solomon, potentially for the Liberal Democrats.

Whispers have been spreading for months that Senator McMahon would either join the Liberal Democrats or rejoin the CLP and contest the Darwin seat. It comes after she was dumped from the CLP’s senate ticket and then quit the party. But in an interview with the Sunday Territorian, she denied these rumours.

“(The CLP) haven’t done very well in Solomon … so it would be a politically smart move to do that. But, no, that’s definitely not been put to me,” she said.

Senator McMahon said she was “definitely not” joining the Liberal Democrats.

“The truth is that I have no desire to run in the next election,” she said.

The next federal election is expected to be held in May.
