PIRATES STEAL NTRU HONOURS

Uni holds on against Bunnies to clinch first premiership in five years

-

UNIVERSITY Pirates have clinched their first A Grade Rugby Union premiership in five years with a seven-point victory over South Darwin.

Pirates – who got out to a 16-point lead early in the second half – managed to survive a number of late Rabbitohs assaults to take their first cup since the 2016-17 season, winning 29-22.

On a sticky Saturday evening at NT Rugby Park, Souths had all the possession in the opening 10 minutes, using their big ball carriers to test the University defence.

The Rabbitohs had been looking to clinch back-to-back titles but it wasn’t to be.
