BASS to get Ferris wheel, beauty bar

- PHILLIPPA BUTT

FOR those keen to see the stars from above, this year’s BASSINTHEGRASS will feature a Ferris wheel.

It is one of a range of additions to the music festival that draws thousands to Darwin’s Mindil Beach.

Giant lawn games will also feature for those becoming disinterested in the tunes, while the BASS Beauty Bar will be there for aspiring fashionistas after a make-up touch up, mani-pedi, henna, a haircut or a massage.

With glitter a major feature of most young festival-goers, there will be an Illumination station and a body marbling paint option in the evening.

This year’s festival will also include a unique Welcome to Country and multiple new dance areas, including the Silent Disco and the Sunset Disco Beach Club.

At the beach itself, there will be live music, drag performances, hula hoop shows, Caribbean bongo sets and a selfie zone.

There is the Power and Water Refreshed space when dancers need time out rest their feet and charge their phones.

Major Events Minister Natasha Fyles said BASSINTHEGRASS was expected to attract 16,000 attendees.

“BASSINTHEGRASS has long been a rite of passage for Territorians, and now it is becoming the same for interstaters, having firmly earnt its spot on the national music festival calendar last year,” Ms Fyles said.

“This means more and more people visiting the Territory . . . with huge benefits for the local tourism and hospitality industries in particular. But, of course, those benefits trickle right down through our economy, with associated industries also reaping the rewards.

“It’s great to see these Australian acts in the Top End, wowing the crowds.”
