Flocks to the shops
AUSTRALIANS are set to spend more than $750m on Mother's Day, splurging on flowers, alcohol, food and clothing.
The average person spends $80 on Mother's Day gifts, according to new Roy Morgan and Australian Retailers Association research.
Of those surveyed, 34 per cent said flowers topped the list, followed by alcohol and food at 23 per cent, while only 11 per cent would buy clothes, shoes or sleepwear for mums.
“With just two weeks to go till Mother’s Day, Australians are set to flock to the shops and head online for gifts for mum, with $754m to be spent on presents, and not surprisingly, flowers top the list with champagne and chocolates also set to be popular gifts,” ARA chief Paul Zahra said.
