Brent out there hearing what residents want
NATASHA FYLES
BRENT Potter, Labor’s candidate in the Fannie Bay by-election, knows his job is to advocate for the right balance between the jobs we need and the space we need to grow with our kids.
Brent spent 10 years in the Australian Army in the defence of our nation and knows the value of good planning and good order. He also knows what it means to serve.
The people of Fannie Bay won’t be taken for fools.
They know the difference between things the CLP say, and things the CLP do.
Here’s a couple of things Labor did not do in Fannie Bay.
Unlike the CLP, we did not support allowing developers to bulldoze a canal right through beautiful Fannie Bay beach for a marina.
Unlike the CLP, we stopped a high- and medium-level residential development at Blake St near the Gardens and Amphitheatre, because we listened to the concerns of locals.
The CLP rezoned that land for high-density apartments.
We stopped it because we know how important open space and lifestyle is to Territorians.
Brent is out there hearing from local residents, and he is ready to work to make sure the electorate of Fannie Bay is enjoyed by all who live there and those that come to visit its iconic locations.
Right now, we’ve got a problem with anti-social behaviour across the Territory, including Fannie Bay, Parap and Ludmilla. This behaviour is totally unacceptable.
Brent and this Government is determined to sort out this problem by having CCTV installed at the Fannie Bay shops and surrounding areas, and by increasing security patrols in the area.
We will also be trialling a 12 month courtesy bus to connect rough sleepers and our vulnerable to short term accommodation and support services, including drug and alcohol counselling, financial counselling, mental health support and dignity services.
Labor’s $3m upgrade to
Bundilla Beach — or Vestey’s, at it used to be known — will activate these areas with better amenities so that more people use them.
Brent will fight to transform Bundilla — based on community consultation — into a place that people want to use, not a place that people want to avoid.
Things such as a pop-up cafes, a half-basketball court and landscaping. A space that links the Ski Club, the Sailing Club and the Trailer Boat Club and brings this under-utilised foreshore alive.
Because Labor values families, we will build a new preschool.
The old preschool on Ross Smith Ave has raised thousands of little Territorians, but the facility is very tired.
This new development will designed and located based on community consultation – families telling us what they want to see, what will make their lives easier.
My government will make these commitments happen.
The CLP is running on empty promises it can’t keep.
They’ve got a terrible track record — you can’t trust them.
They don’t mean what they say and, more than that, they don’t have the ability to bring home any of their half-baked promises.
Remember how they sacked all the teachers and cut $135 million from Territory schools?
Remember how they jacked up electricity prices by 30 per cent, overnight? Remember their position on climate-change?
When given the chance, the CLP scrapped the BDR.
Never forget that the CLP sold the port, and they sold TIO.
The positioned Power and Water to be sold next, but we didn’t allow that to happen.
They trashed the Territory’s reputation.
They are willing to trash it again in a selfish attempt to win votes that risks damage to our economy, future investment and jobs.
They have never apologised and they have not learned from their mistakes.
The CLP does not deserve to be rewarded for bad behaviour.
It’s still two years out from the next Territory-wide election.
You can make your vote work by electing Brent, who will immediately become a valuable and influential part of my government’s team.
Brent will be your voice in government, fighting for you.
I know Brent and I know he will work hard for Fannie Bay.
On Saturday, make your vote count. Vote 1 Brent Potter.
