The future of the Northern Territory looks bright, thanks to our talented young people

-

Friday evening was the night of nights for the youth of the Northern Territory. The Young Achiever Awards celebrated the young people who are working to drive the Territory forward, support their community, or who are sacrificing their time to care for beloved family members.

Among the many worthy nominees, finalists and award winners, one Alice Springs man took home the coveted Young Achiever of the Year award.

During an emotional acceptance speech, Sadadeen resident Jordon Humphreys paused to video call his mother to share the exciting news.

Jordon received the award because of his work as a dedicated youth and disability advocate.

In addition, he was also called up on the stage earlier in the night to accept the Minister for Youth Excellence in Youth Leadership award.

These awards are another notch in the belt for Mr Humphreys, who was named Young Centralian of the Year in 2023.

“For me winning this … it isn’t about the recognition, but to show that someone from Alice Springs … can do something,” he told the crowd.

“There are so many amazing young people in the room.”

He was certainly correct in that statement.

Twelve more took home awards, including talented sportswoman Lalwa May with the Zip Print Sport Award, Tomisena Duncan with the NT Government Young Aboriginal Educator award and Cong Do Le with the Charles Darwin University International Student award.

This is just to name a few.

It was heartening to see how every young person in the room showed such support for each other and how they displayed such hope for the future.

It is a future that they will be crafting.

With such talent coming out of the Northern Territory, it is safe to say Territorians are in good hands.
