Dry to feature great racing

- Greg De Lanty

A return to the dry season heralds many great nights of greyhound racing at Winnellie Park in the coming months.

Sunday’s nine-race card starts with The Sage Contracting Dash, a 312m race for grade 5s and maidens.

Joel Vansleve’s dog Heavenly Sal will likely start favourite, with Rob Brown’s dog Hero the one to figure at the winning post.

Race 2 is The Holdfast Insurance Dash over 383m for mixed grade 4s and 5s.

Graeme Ferns looks to have the top two favourites in Scotch Finger and Nikanova, who are both in good form and with the potential to win.

Race 3 is the BTC Constructions Dash with a return afoot for Little Sciuto. She will start as favourite from Box 8.

Elite Taz is in Box 1, and provided he gets a good start could feature. Others to watch are Richie Carr’s My Mate Glen and Aussie Bullseye.

Race 4 is the Bishop’s Transport Sprint over 537m.

Flip Your Fifty is threefrom-three in his previous outings in Darwin, and the dog from Melbourne’s distance is 537m, so with form on his side and his preferred length, he’s sitting pretty for another win.

Look out for his kennelmate Perfect Blend who is still after her first win in the Top End and Tiggerlong Rheve from Box 2 as well.

Race 5 sees another great battle between Quick Shadow, Nick The Quick and Miss Enigma.

Teresa Wareham certainly stamped her authority on training great greyhounds in 2024. In Race 6, she has Solsbury Hill in Box 1 and he will be hard to beat. But Ronaldo is in Box 3 will no doubt be a smokey.

Adam Poulter’s Kelmar Soxy has the talent to win this and certainly seems to prefer this distance.

Gates open at 5.45pm, with the first race at 7.14pm.
