MIXING IT UP ON MURAL
GEORGE Rose’s interactive art piece will literally be bouncing off the walls.
The internationally recognised artist, illustrator and muralist has collaborated with founder of the EyeJack app and digital artist Stu Campbell for the Coast’s first animated mural.
The app is a free platform for visitors to view the animated work through a mobile device; together the pair is changing the way art is viewed with augmented reality.
“The mural is inspired by local Sunshine Coast fauna and flora and when the Eyejack app is downloaded onto a mobile device, the fish will literally come away from the wall and swim around people, and the flowers will open and close,” George said.
The masterpiece is commissioned by Sunshine Coast Council, but the Melbourne-based artist has travelled the world painting large walls and being commissioned by the likes of Instagram, Jansport, Mastercard, Melbourne Central and Star Wars.
“I am in love with colour, typography, finding excuses to spend most of my time outdoors, up ladders and covered in paint,” she said.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to create something unique on the streets of Caloundra.”
“We are thrilled that George Rose’s work will be featured in Caloundra and look forward to launching the AR animation in the coming weeks,” Sunshine Coast Council public art curator Julie Hauritz said.
The animated mural is just one of the many street art displays nestled within the walls of Caloundra.
Last weekend George gave a talk at a Caloundra Regional Gallery Artspace workshop followed by a walk to the artwork on Bulcock Street for a close-up.
The formal unveiling with augmented viewing will be in November.
