Talented group shining with collective creativity
Once strangers, these sisters are sharing art shed
TUCKED away in Caloundra’s down town is a group of talented women ready for the Coast to discover their artist abilities.
Sue Savage, as the founder of the Collective Market, is at the forefront of the group.
“The Collective Market is a group of girls from the Sunshine Coast around the Caloundra area.
“Everybody makes something. From jewellery, macramae, manadala art, potted succulents, crochet and soy candles,” she said.
The talent is diverse and the Collective group pride themselves on the way they create their pieces.
“Everything in the Collective is handmade,” Sue said.
“We all make something unusual and we want people to see what we do.”
The markets are held every weekend in the Paisley Park Project courtyard.
“We’re in the little shed there, so we’re all set up under cover,” she said.
Sue mustered up her intrepidness to get the markets going.
“I had been trying to get the courage up to get some girls together,” she said.
“When I was following local people on Instagram I thought there’s just such beautiful talent out there. The public should be able to see what people are making instead of buying the same old stuff. I started to contact a few girls to see if they’d be interested in getting together and then I had to find a venue. I was lucky
enough to find Paisley Park and we just took it from there.”
Sue said she bit the bullet and now with a new circle of creative friends the markets are starting to flourish.
“I think you have to jump for your dreams and just do it. We’ve never known each other before ...
“We’ve become such good friends. The support and the camaraderie is there, we just love coming on a Sunday.”
There are currently 11 women all coming together with their crafts on display. To visit the markets, head down to the shed in the courtyard on a Sunday from 8am-12.30pm, or check it out on social media @thecollectivemarket18.
