Falcons set to soar once more
CHRIS Flannery, Ashley Robinson and Eric Smith, take a bow.
The off-season recruitment drive for the Sunshine Coast Falcons has been exceptional to say the least.
For a club constricted by a limited budget, some several hundred thousand less than the big spenders in the Intrust Super Cup, their incoming players are game breakers. For a multitude of reasons, 2018 was a year to forget for the Falcons and changes had to be made. But while we’re months out from kicking off, you can already tell Smith’s reign will be a success.
Jono Rueben, Sitiveni Moceidreke, Todd Murphy, Nicho Hynes, Darryn Schonig and Tyson Smoothy – you’ll see a pattern. Especially if rumoured targets Joe Boyce and Tom Murphy follow suit.
These signings are players ready to take their game to the next level. They’re players who can fly under the radar but ones who’re the moneyball-type signings.
Youth was a big issue with the Falcons of this season; some were simply not ready for this comp week in, week out. That depth has been addressed and with more to come, the Falcons will soar again.
