THE sky is the limit in the hin­ter­land for a plan to bring a new tourism mar­ket to the re­gion. Sun­shine Coast Coun­cil will in­ves­ti­gate the suit­abil­ity of reg­u­lat­ing ar­ti­fi­cial light in the Obi-Obi Val­ley, Conon­dale and Maleny Na­tional Parks areas so it can ap­ply for in­ter­na­tional stargaz­ing ac­cred­i­ta­tion. Cr McKay said it would cre­ate only the sec­ond of its kind in Aus­trala­sia, the other be­ing in New Zea­land where an­nual tourist num­bers have risen from 400,000 peo­ple to 800,000 peo­ple in five years.
