Pre-Christmas carparks still to come
EARLY morning works are under way to deliver more carparks at the region’s main shopping centre prior to Christmas.
Solar panels are being installed on the rooftop carpark by tradespeople, while David Jones, Big W, H&M and JB HiFi are all currently being fitted out.
Roadworks were recently finished on Plaza Pde and Millwell Rd.
“Carparks are being handed over progressively and are ahead of schedule, with additional carparks opening prior to Christmas,” Sunshine Plaza centre manager Michael Manwaring said.
Stage one of the $420 million redevelopment opened on November 15, which included a fully-refurbished Myer, Tigerlily, T2, Noosa Chocolate Factory and more.
Nearly 40 stores opened up as part of the stage one refurbishment.
The upgrades were set to carry Sunshine Plaza for the next 20 years.
Mr Manwaring said stage two of the redevelopment was due to open before Easter next year.
There had been reports the redevelopment had been over budget and behind schedule, but the Daily was told that wasn’t the case, and there was no night shift carpark works taking place.
The current works will deliver a total of 219 new carparks to the complex before Christmas.
Once stage two is finished there will be more than 1400 carparks in total on-site with new carparks to come online as they were completed. The revamps to the Maroochydore complex are set to make it Queensland’s largest shopping centre north of Brisbane.
