Enabling better progress
IT’S encouraging that Andrew Wallace has finally realised the need for Bruce Highway upgrading and rail duplication (Daily, December 3).
His efforts to encourage all levels of government to work together to deliver necessary improvements are to be commended.
There are some federal issues he could seek to resolve to enable better progress as immediate priorities, to help him (and residents) realise his soon as possible delivery hope.
He could seek federal agreement to the 80 (federal) and 20 (state) funding arrangements the LNP Government offers similar developments elsewhere (particularly where there are marginal seats to be won). Rather than the 50/50 currently being offered.
He could also seek to bring the federal funding offered in 2016 forward from 2020 when it might be made available (subject of course to Budget and economic circumstances and other priorities).
Let’s hope Fisher is a sufficiently marginal electorate for those outcomes to be possible. ANDREW MORAN Battery Hill
