FITTER THAN EVER
Dole ready to soar for Falcons in state league
RUGBY LEAGUE: Sunshine Coast Falcons lock Daniel Dole says a rigorous pre-season block with an NRL heavyweight has him in the best shape of his life heading into the new year.
Dole, along with Nicho Hynes and Jon Reuben, officially joined the Falcons for the first time last week following a six-week stint with the Melbourne Storm.
The new recruit said he had been warmly welcomed by the playing group since his arrival at Bokarina and was relishing new levels of fitness and onfield skills following his time down south.
“It (Storm experience) was real hard and the toughest preseason I’ve ever done, but I expected and knew what was coming so I just ripped in,” Dole said.
“I think I’m at my peak and probably the fittest
I’ve ever been cardio-wise.
“The amount of running that you do down in Melbourne (is tough) and you get flogged so I’m the fittest I’ve ever been for sure.
“I learned heaps as well. Even just little things when it comes to your passing and other things you wouldn’t think you’d need to improve on.”
The 22-year-old, a former Wentworthville Magpies talent in the NSW Cup, is eager to get the season under way with the Falcons and had high hopes for the campaign ahead.
“I want to play every game, and in the 13 jersey would be good, and just play good consistent footy,” he said.
“But, I want to win the comp and want to win a premiership as well. I’ve never won a senior premiership and I’m not here just to muck around.”
He’s only enjoyed a couple of sessions with the Falcons, but he was buoyed by what he had seen so far.
The Falcons will play their first pre-season trial match on February 16 against the Ipswich Jets followed by a clash with Norths on February 23.
