Heartfelt thanks to ‘angel’ who helped after crash
WHAT do you say to a person you’ve never laid eyes on, but who held your hand through one of the toughest days of your life?
Almost three weeks after a horrific crash on Beckmans Rd, Tewantin, Michelle Cain met her “guardian angel”.
Driving not far behind, Jane Hawkins was one of the first on scene when the truck rolled on January 14.
“Thank you, thank you,” Ms Cain said, fighting back tears, to Jane Hawkins, the good Samaritan who stopped to help. “Thank you for holding onto my hand.”
“I was nervous about what I was going to come across. I was glad you were both talking,” Ms Hawkins said. “You were both so calm.”
Ms Cain said while emergency services worked to free her, Ms Hawkins held her hand and reassured her everything was going to be OK.
“She helped me focus. I knew there was someone on the outside who was waiting and she kept grabbing my hand,” Ms Cain said.
“I just did what I would like in that situation,” Ms Hawkins said.
Ms Cain and son Jack, a passenger in the crash, are home recovering.
