Sydney GWS Giants are enthusiastic to an AFL plan to play play a premiership leaguen game USA.

Giants’ chief executive David Matthews said of the American proposal had support, locally and in the US.

The Giants have confirmed that they are interested in playing one of their home games in the USA, as a way of growing interest in the club and the game.

California is the most favored State and a game in Los Angeles could eventuate over the next two seasons.

While talks with US sports promoters are in the preliminary stages there has already been support from financial backers and a match in USA would be welcome by Tourism Australia.

The AFL is playing premiership games in New Zealand and China and the UK and USA are two more countries under consideration.

It’s understand that America is a potential venue because of many Americans consider AFL a hybrid game that mixed basketball with football.

The bye round opens up the AFL to long distance football, as the week’s break would give players recovery time for jet-lag.

The AFL’s official airline, Virgin, flies directly to LA.
