Rankings reveal how stud focus is rewarded
LEITH White Suffolks are run with a commercial focus based around animal performance.
Pedigree and performance have been recorded on all animals for a number of years.
Birth weights, post-weaning fat, muscle and growth are all measured. This raw data, along with DNA testing, is used to increase the accuracy of the Lambplan figures that are used to aid selection.
This month on Lambplan Leith 160613 with a score of 244 was the second-highest ranked sire of all breeds nationally on the Carcass Plus index. Leith also has three sires and another son of Leith 15 in the top 20. Leith is the only Tasmanian stud in the top 20.
The stud will auction 150 White Suffolk rams on February 8, 2019 at Leith at Westbury. The sale offering will include a number related to Leith 160613 and 120015.
