Rank­ings re­veal how stud fo­cus is re­warded

LEITH White Suf­folks are run with a com­mer­cial fo­cus based around an­i­mal per­for­mance.

Pedi­gree and per­for­mance have been recorded on all an­i­mals for a num­ber of years.

Birth weights, post-wean­ing fat, mus­cle and growth are all mea­sured. This raw data, along with DNA test­ing, is used to in­crease the ac­cu­racy of the Lamb­plan fig­ures that are used to aid se­lec­tion.

This month on Lamb­plan Leith 160613 with a score of 244 was the sec­ond-high­est ranked sire of all breeds na­tion­ally on the Car­cass Plus in­dex. Leith also has three sires and an­other son of Leith 15 in the top 20. Leith is the only Tas­ma­nian stud in the top 20.

The stud will auc­tion 150 White Suf­folk rams on Fe­bru­ary 8, 2019 at Leith at West­bury. The sale of­fer­ing will in­clude a num­ber re­lated to Leith 160613 and 120015.
