Bar­nett takes over as min­is­ter

GUY Bar­nett is Tas­ma­nia’s new Pri­mary In­dus­tries Min­is­ter af­ter a reshuf­fle, adding to his port­fo­lio of En­ergy and Veter­ans Af­fairs.

For­mer pri­mary in­dus­tries min­is­ter Sarah Court­ney re­mains in Cab­i­net af­ter a code of con­duct probe found she should have dis­closed a re­la­tion­ship with her de­part­ment head sooner.

Ms Court­ney told Premier Will Hodg­man on Oc­to­ber 14 she and her de­part­ment sec­re­tary, John Whit­ting­ton, had formed a per­sonal re­la­tion­ship.

Ms Court­ney stepped down and Dr Whit­ting­ton took per­sonal leave while con­flict of in­ter­est and code of con­duct in­ves­ti­ga­tions were held.

Mr Hodg­man said in­de­pen­dent re­views found fail­ure to dis­close the re­la­tion­ship sooner was a “mi­nor” breach of the min­is­te­rial code of con­duct.

Ms Court­ney is now Re­sources Min­is­ter and Build­ing and Con­struc­tion Min­is­ter.
