New role for TFGA president
TASMANIAN Farmers and Graziers Association president Wayne Johnston says he is looking forward to new challenges as the newly elected mayor of the Meander Valley Council.
Mr Johnston was a clear winner in this week’s local government elections.
He will hand over the reins of the TFGA’s top job to someone else after the organisation's next annual general meeting which will be held in March or April next year.
“I am excited, it will be a new adventure for myself and my family,” he said.
Mr Johnston said some “unfinished business” at the TFGA would be his focus before he would start thinking too much about his new role.
He said he had not considered even running for local government until a number of people suggested it to him.
“I hadn't given it much thought because I was too busy concentrating on what's happening with TFGA,” Mr Johnston said.
“Then I started thinking about it and where I was going to go after TFGA and thought maybe I should give it a try.”
Mr Johnston said he was confident his experience with corporate governance at the TFGA would help in his new mayoral role.
