Horse deaths to go to court

THE court case over the deaths of polo ponies on a Bass Strait cross­ing from Tas­ma­nia is set to start next week.

The ABC re­ported this week Spirit of Tas­ma­nia op­er­a­tor TT-Line is claim­ing it had no li­a­bil­ity for the deaths of 16 horses it trans­ported in Jan­uary.

The ABC re­ported the horses’ owner An­drew Wil­liams and oth­ers were su­ing TT-Line and QUBE Ports in the Vic­to­rian Supreme Court, with a di­rec­tions hear­ing in Mel­bourne next Fri­day.

The polo ponies had been in Tas­ma­nia com­pet­ing at Barn­bougle in the state’s North­East be­fore the cross­ing from Devon­port to the Port of Mel­bourne.
