HORIZON CHASE

A RETRO RACER THAT’S DEFINITELY WORTH CHASING DOWN.

- $3.29 | www.horizonchase.com DAN GARDINER

Channeling the vibe of 1980s and 90s arcade racing classics like Out Run, Test Drive and Top Gear, this fast-paced and vibrantly-coloured driving game takes you from golden-hued Californian deserts to LA’s nighttime streetscapes and far beyond as you take a world-tour of locales. Horizon Chase is basically the polar opposite of EA’s Real Racing franchise — there are no real-world tracks or cars here, just simple stylised graphics, an insane sense of speed and corners that are always taken as one long skid, with the ‘wheel’ slammed as far to the le or right as it will go. Play is relatively forgiving but does demand you pay attention. Look away from the screen for a second and you risk missing a turn or bumping into the back of someone you’re trying to overtake. While you won’t need to spend hours learning tracks or mastering car handling, but you will o en need to retry races in order to place rst. ere’s also a ton of additional cars and upgrades to unlock (all done by just placing highly in new tracks) and races generally last from 2-3 minutes, making it perfect for quick play sessions. If you enjoy racing games in the slightest, put the pedal to the metal and pick this one up; it’s one of the best mobile games we’ve ever played. [
