MILC

WHAT YOU NEED TO CONSIDER WHEN PURCHASING A MILC

LENS RANGE

Some manufacturers have larger lens ranges than others. Unlike the DSLR market, there aren’t many third-party lenses available yet, so you’ll generally be stuck with manufacturer-made options.

POP UP FLASH

If you’re going to be shooting happy snaps of the family indoors, this feature’s quite essential.

ACCESSORIES

Some manufacturers o er more elaborate accessories to expand the use of your camera, such as underwater housing and battery grips.

LCD

Some cameras come with fully articulated LCDs, which can be great for shooting video or just when you want to capture the perfect sel e.

VIDEO

Whilst K video isn’t the standard yet, it’s worth looking for, as it generally means that you’ll get better HD videos from it.

IMAGE STABILISATION

Not many mirrorless cameras have this built-in, but it is extremely useful for shooting video to reduce camera shake.

SIZE AND FEEL

For us, the physicality of a camera is one of the most important features. Does the camera feel comfortable in your hands and is its menu system easy to navigate around?

CAMERA WEIGHT

Also often overlooked, you’ll need to test this in person. If a camera’s too light, it won’t sit in your hands very well and if it’s too heavy, it won’t be fun to carry around.
