Nikon 1 J5

SMALL AND AFFORDABLE, BUT STILL PACKS A PUNCH.

-

THE J5 IS Nikon’s latest mirrorless camera, packing big capabilities (including a 21MP sensor, 3-inch tilting touchscreen, pop-up ash and wireless capabilities) into a rather small body.

The two main features that excited us the most about the J5 were the capability to shoot 4K video and the ipping touchscreen for selfies. e selfie feature is designed to give you the most attering scene by automatically adjusting camera settings, whether that’s with ash or without. Of course, you can also shoot without ipping the screen, which will give you more control over the settings you choose. 4K video is a little more of a mix. e J5 can only capture 4K at a maximum of 15fps — well below the ‘ lm’ standard of 24fps. However, this is still quite handy when shooting scenes where the camera is mounted, such as landscape video. HD video can be recorded at up to 60fps and there’s a good amount of control o ered in the Advanced Movie mode.

The image quality of the J5 was quite good in our tests, and it performed well in most scenarios, including low light. In fact, it’s surprisingly good considering the sensor size is the smallest of those we’ve reviewed here. e videos are quite high in contrast, which can be good if you don’t plan to edit, as the colours do have a bit more pop.

Despite the compact camera look and feel, the J5 packs a punch with its combination of great features and reasonable price. A good option for those looking to get a low-priced enthusiast camera that they can have some fun with.
