See the e ect your exposure settings will have before you shoot
The Live View display can be set to exposure simulation mode on many cameras. This provides a decent indication of the exposure of a picture before you take it, so by dialling in exposure compensation, the image on the monitor will get progressively brighter or darker. This can make it harder to focus, though, so either do this before adjusting the exposure or deactivate the feature.
