KEY FEATURES OF LIVE VIEW

Here are the controls you’ll use to see a scene through your camera’s rear display

-

01 LIVE VIEW SWITCH Your camera will be in view nder shooting mode by default. You’ll need to trigger Live View mode using a rotating switch (to choose between stills and movies) and button combination, or by using a lever.

02 VIEWFINDER The view nder blacks out in Live View because the mirror is locked out of position. This is necessary because the sensor has to be constantly exposed to light to produce the Live View image on the rear screen.

03 MAGNIFICATION BUTTON Use the magnifying glass button to zoom in and check that details are sharp. Repeatedly tap the button to jump to di erent views. Big magni cations can look soft, so you may nd it easier to focus using low settings.

04 OVERLAYS You can cycle through various information overlays in Live View, ranging from a simple aperture, shutter speed and ISO readout to a multi-layered screen peppered with shooting information, a histogram or an electronic level. You can also access a range of grid displays and a crop mode that enables you to compose shots for a variety of aspect ratios.

05 AUTOFOCUS You can use autofocus during Live view, but it’s generally sluggish. SLRs usually o er a choice of ‘live’ mode, which bases the focus on the Live View image, or ‘quick’ mode, which relies on the camera’s faster-focusing AF module. The latter means the mirror has to flip back down rst, interrupting the Live View feed.
