ADJUST SETTINGS

As well as previewing exposure and depth of eld, you can see the e ect that the processing options you’ve set in the camera, such as white balance, sharpness, colour saturation and contrast, have on the shot you’re about to take. You can change settings while you’re in Live View mode by simply pressing the relevant button on the camera and making the adjustment using the screen.

CHECK THE RESULTS

If you’re struggling to ‘see in black and white’, selecting the camera’s Monochrome picture setting will be a real boon, as you can check an image works without colour before pressing the shutter release. Increasing the sharpness can make it easier to judge manual focusing. Just remember to reduce this setting before you take the picture, otherwise your pictures may appear oversharpened.

CHOOSE RAW

We’re always extolling the bene ts of shooting in your camera’s raw picture format, and here’s another plus: by choosing raw, the settings can be adjusted later. This means that you’ll save a colour image even if you’ve set the Monochrome picture setting. You get the best of both worlds: a colour version you can convert to black and white later, and a mono preview for judging composition.
