DAEMON SYNC
A FIENDISHLY USEFUL SMARTPHONE BACKUP APP.
Now, an app with ‘daemon’ in its title may not be all that comforting to the computer lamen — just like all those mysterious, evil-named applications that you see running in the background of your computer when you’re checking Task Manager — but in tech-talk a daemon is simply software that runs on its own, without the need for commands from a user. When you realise that Daemon Sync is an app that will back-up your Android or iOS device to your computer over Wi-Fi, the concept of it running all-by-itself starts to make a little more sense. After downloading the the server app to your Linux, Mac or Windows PC and loading the Daemon Sync app onto your Android or iOS device, the app is easy to get up and running. There’s no logins or passwords, just type a four-digit code (generated locally by your PC) into your smartphone and you can sync your media and any other folders you wish to your computer. This connection will be established automatically whenever you enter the local Wi-Fi area and you can set your device to automatically sync at specfied intervals. [
