NEXT TIME YOU SLEEP IN, BLAME YOUR GENES
TURNS OUT SOME OF US ARE JUST EARLY BIRDS AND NIGHT OWLS BY BIRTH.
While studying the sleeping habits of fruit flies, Researchers at the University of Leicester in the UK have identi ed genes that are believed to influence the insects’ circadian rhythms. Based on a gene pro le, the researchers are able to e ectively determine a fly’s tendency to be an early riser or a night owl. Because the circadian rhythms of the fruit fly tend to be similar to that of humans, the research suggests that genes could be an important part in our own sleeping patterns too.
