For anyone over the age of let’s say, 25, the SnapChat phenomenon is probably a bit puzzling. Why would anyone want to send short, disposable video messages to their friends? e answer to that question is blowing in the wind, but the point is, they do, so why not try that with music instead of blurry moving sel es? Why not indeed. at’s what MSTY purports to do, and it does it ne, so long as you can nd something you like in its slightly tiny library (around 2,000 songs at present). You simply select a song, or a 30-second clip of a song, append a message and send it o to a friend. ey’ll marvel at the profundity of your missive and hopefully send something back. I can actually see the appeal of this – insofar as I can vaguely see the appeal of SnapChat – but MSTY will need to accrue a better library before the likes of me get heavily involved. Dylan discography perhaps? Or the Star Wars theme? at’d come in handy. SP e Khan Academy is a non-pro t organization founded in 2006 to provide a concise education platform that’s open to the whole world and free of charge. With a new app under its belt, the video lecture series has been categorised into disciplines ranging primary to university level. ough initially housing mainly mathematics tutorials intended for friends and family, the academy has garnered support and funding from the likes of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Lemann Foundation and Google, to name a few, and since then has expanded to cover science, economics and arts subjects. e app itself is well laid-out, with each subject adorned with its own colour-coded icon, while lectures are dispensed at the level you’d expect of a traditional university. If you want to expand your knowledge on a topic, it might be worth perusing the Kahn Academy’s free library rst. If you’re just into learning new things, this is a fantastic place to start. JB Where would we be without numbers? Probably still in caves and maybe even eating rats alive. Humankind has latched onto the allure of quantifying things with renewed fervour since the advent of smart devices, and Numerous aims to make your busywork/ obsession a bit more streamlined. It drags numbers kicking and screaming from popular apps such as Stripe, Salesforce and the Google eco-system, as well as most relevant tness apps like Apple Health, Fitbit and others. e library is constantly evolving, but the important part is how all these numbers are presented, and if you’re sick and tired of tapping then Numerous does away with that strenuous task. You can choose to allow your numbers to be shared with others and there’s a lot of exibility with the way you can customise noti cations. You can even set it up to perform actions based on your numbers: air conditioner integration being the most obvious boon here. SP
