Elon Musk suggests nuking Mars in the name of science

WHILE NASA URGES UNI STUDENTS TO HATCH A PLAN FOR MANNED MARS MISSION.

JUST TO BE clear, the tech wonderboy, Tesla Motors CEO and founder of Space X doesn’t want to destroy the Martian planet, but Musk proposed using nuclear explosions as one possible solution for defrosting Mars’ polar ice and heating its atmosphere — a necessary step towards colonising it. Musk’s statement coincided with a call from NASA for university students to submit plans for a manned Mars mission. Students have until November 5th to submit a mission plan, which must include a way to slow and land the 15-30 ton manned spaceship in Mars’s thin atmosphere.
