THAT’S YOU
A PS4 PARTY GAME DESIGNED TO SHOW OFF SONY’S PLAYLINK TECHNOLOGY. $24.95 | PS4 www.playstation.com/en-au/games/thats-you-ps4
That’s You is a PS4 party game which implements Sony’s new PlayLink technology. This allows players to wirelessly connect their smartphones to the PS4 console and use them as controllers, thus enabling second-screen gaming functionality and a better casual multiplayer experience for those who don’t own more than one DualShock controller. It’s basically a quiz game in the ye olde vein of Buzz, except you’ll mostly be answering questions about the friends you’re playing with. To play the game, all participants need to download the app for their phones. Once done, it’s easy enough to ‘pair’ to the game — though we needed to create a specific Wi-Fi hotspot, which the game thankfully makes quite easy. Then each player chooses a card style, takes a selfie to have displayed throughout the game, and chooses a screen name. (You’re allowed to use swear words, which didn’t take long for our seasoned crew of tech journalists to discover.) The tech is neat enough: for game show-style party games, there’s very little PlayLink couldn’t cater for.
That’s You has a range of quiz-centric games which basically invite participants to lightly take the piss out of each other; for example, choosing “whose diet is most difficult to cater for” or having players select an image representing a person’s most preferred after dinner activity. The most fun ones are those that require a bit of creativity: sentences which require freeform completion, or images of other players one must creatively decorate. The best of these is voted for among the players, and having the highest score is the goal. For all the fun these mini-games provide, the tone is that excruciating variety of sanitised irreverence reminiscent of ‘90s sitcoms. But if you’re drunk enough, maybe that’ll be part of the fun.
