DESPITE SPORTING FOUR USB ports, the Jackson PTA7724 is available for just $35 from retailers such as JB Hi-Fi. The charger comes with USA, UK and European plugs, as well as an Aussie one so it can be used back home. Rather than a fiddly clip-in and out system, the adapter uses plugs with a normal figure-eight-style end (like is used on many charger cords) so are very easy to plug in and out securely.

The Jackson charger can output up to 2.1A but charging power hungry devices such as tablets, but not across all ports at once. In fact, the total output is limited to 2.1A (10W), though we found, in practice, it is able to charge at least two devices at around 2A.

The design is quite robust and compact, and with only a small amount of overhang, is easy to fit into most sockets. Jackson also has a not-yet-available 7A version of the charger for those who need the extra power.
