With 3D printing slowly becoming mainstream, don’t be surprised if your daily meds are one day custom-printed to the exact dose that you need. Researchers at the University of Michigan have invented a technique to do just that. Published in the journal Nature Communications, the proof-of-concept process has the ability to ‘print’ precise doses of multiple drugs onto different surfaces. This invention could usher in a future where custom drugs are produced quickly and efficiently at pharmacies and hospitals catering to a patient’s individual needs. This will not only make the meds more effective, but some hope that this invention would lower the cost of some lifesaving drugs.
