145,632 NUMBER OF U.S. TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS ESTIMATED TO HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY POKÉMON GO

-

Focusing on the plight of distracted driving in the US state of Indiana, Mara Faccio and John McConnell’s study has uncovered some alarming findings that seem to relate

Pokémon GO to traffic accidents. These accidents were 26.5% more likely to occur within 100m of a Pokéstop, even accounting for extenuating factors, and the rise and fall of traffic accidents coincide with the popularity spike of the game. While speculative, if you extrapolate the relevant figures, the game would account for 145,632 more road accidents across the US.
